To verify an Oklahoma nursing license, you can visit the official website of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. When on the website, you should click on the “License Verification” button, which is on the left side of the page.

The online tool will give you three options for license verifications (Search by Name/License Number/NCSBN ID).

Select the one you want and fill in the required information (name, license number, NCSBN ID). Once you are ready, conduct the search and see the results at the bottom of the page.

Note that a security verification is required before you complete the search.

To verify the license status, click on “view report”.

The given tool is the primary source verification for Oklahoma licensees. However, you may also verify a nursing license through the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s national database.

Steps to get a nursing license in Oklahoma

Step 1: Enroll in a nursing program

Oklahoma requires nurses to enroll in a professional, state approved nursing program. The latter may also be approved by the board of another jurisdiction.

In Oklahoma, there are a number of nursing schools and colleges, which offer professional nursing programs at the associate (ADN) and baccalaureate (BSN) levels. Both of these levels are acceptable for the licensure. However, there are some differences of practice between these two degrees.

Step 2: Apply for the nursing license

When the application time has come, you should send the official transcripts to the State Board.

You may apply online through the Oklahoma nursing portal. If it is your first application, you must create an account and then file the application. The application fee is $85.

Please note that you are to apply for licensure within two years after graduation. If you fail to do so, then you will need to attend a refresher course. Another option may be attending a nursing coursework, which covers 80 hours of classroom review, as well as 80 hours of clinical work.

Step 3: Take the NCLEX

Besides application, you should also consider registering for the NCLEX. Follow this link to register for the exam and pay the $200 fee.

This exam is the most important step towards licensure. If you fail, you can retake it providing that you pay $200 again.

If you prefer, you may also take the NCLEX-PN as a retake exam, by choosing a lower level for nurse licensure.
